A lifetime on the water!

I grew up on the small Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee.

At 17 years old I went to sea and spent 10 years sailing the world's oceans as a sailor.

I have been working in the Port of Hamburg for over 30 years now.

Initially worked in various jobs, including at the Office for Electricity and Port Construction, today's Hamburg Port Authority.

Since 2005 I have been a ship's captain and work in harbor tours, most of those years with the barge "Tanja"!

The Barkasse Tanja

Traditional harbor barge that has been operating in the Port of Hamburg since 1936!

Initially, it transported shipyard and dockworkers, and now for several decades it has been transporting tourists and maritime-loving Hamburgers through the harbor!
